🌟 Meet My Guest
I’m honored to welcome my friend COL Chris Hossfeld, USA (Ret.) to the Leadership & Success Podcast with Coach BZ for a conversation about what leadership looks like when the stakes are high, information is incomplete, and people are depending on you.
Chris is a retired U.S. Army Colonel, combat veteran, former infantry battalion commander, strategist, educator, mentor, entrepreneur, and lifelong student of leadership.
During more than 27 years of Army service, Chris completed four combat deployments and led organizations ranging from small staffs to large multinational formations. His career included battalion command with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), developing commanders as a senior Observer/Controller/Trainer, serving as Chief of Staff for First Army Division East, and educating senior military and civilian leaders at the U.S. Army War College.
After retiring from the Army, Chris continued serving the national-security community at The University of Texas at Austin, helping connect innovative university research with Department of Defense challenges.
Today, Chris is Director of Programs at Argon Mechatronics and Founder & CEO of Barrel Strength Leadership—an organization built around a powerful idea:
🥃 Leadership should not be watered down.
Through mentorship, reflection, leadership development, and immersive battlefield staff rides at historic locations such as Gettysburg, Chris helps leaders move beyond theory and confront the realities of decision-making, risk, accountability, trust, adaptability, and leadership under pressure.

🧭 What You Will Learn…
✨ Leadership When the Stakes Are High: What four combat deployments and decades of military leadership taught Chris about making difficult decisions with incomplete information.
✨ Lessons from “No Slack”: What commanding an Air Assault Infantry Battalion and multinational forces taught him about trust, mission, accountability, and taking care of people.
✨ From Service to Significance: What Chris learned transitioning from nearly three decades in uniform to entrepreneurship, mentorship, national security, technology, and developing the next generation.
🥃 THE FINAL POUR
Near the end of our conversation, I’ll ask Chris one question that captures the heart of this episode:
After nearly three decades of service, four combat deployments, battalion command, developing commanders, teaching strategy, studying history, and now developing civilian leaders—if you could pour everything you’ve learned about leadership into ONE lesson for the next generation, what would it be?
You won't want to miss his answer.
